Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a former world number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Cervara.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his maiden trophy since the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hardcourt from March of 2023.

Victory also signifies he has won twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct tournaments.

"For the first time I have attended a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his past six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving strategy and recurring reactions on court had caused some to wonder if his capacity to play at the highest level was finished.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an enhanced serving game.

He recovered from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The pair traded breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his initial professional victory, gained dominance to force a decider.

He rescued 4 early-game break points in a tight final set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner clinched the title with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
